Q. What is remote phone unlocking?
A. Remote unlocking works by submitting your phone details and receiving by email your unique unlocking code. You then input your unlocking code using your phone's keypad. Unlocking your phone will allow you to use it on any network (Vodafone, T-Mobile, O2, Orange, BT Cellnet, Virgin, any network worldwide!).
Q. Why do I need to unlock my phone?
A. When you purchase your mobile phone, the network you subscribe to will lock it so that it can only be used on its frequency. If you then want to sell your phone or use it on another network, you will find that another network's sim card will not work unless you unlock the phone. Unlocking enables you to use your mobile with any network's sim card, worldwide. Your network provider will charge you between 15 and 30 to unlock one phone; we offer the same service at a fraction of the price, 2.99 per phone. An unlocked phone will also give you the opportunity to change your SIM card with a local provider's SIM when abroad, allowing for cheaper calls. It will also increase the selling value of your phone.
Q. Can any phone be remotely unlocked?
A. NO. Some older models cannot be remotely unlocked and only a cable solution can help. Please view the list of compatible phones before using our service.
Q. How do you unlock my phone?
A. A phone is locked using a mathematical formula based on a phone's unique IMEI number, model, and on the country and network it is locked to. We use this information to calculate your unique unlock codes, which will be sent to you by email. Once you receive our email, follow the instructions we provide to enter your unlock codes into your phone key pad, and the phone will be immediately unlocked. Simple.
Q. How do I find out my phone's IMEI number?
A. Easy, enter *#06# on your phone's key pad and the 15 digit number will be displayed on the screen. Alternatively you will find it on a label on the back of your phone, underneath the battery. The IMEI number is the International Mobile Equipment Identifier, a 15 digit number that uniquely identifies your phone. The unlock code will be generated from this and so it is very important that you provide us with the correct code. If we do not have the correct IMEI number, we cannot generate the correct unlock code.
Q. Is remote unlocking legal?
A. Unlocking a mobile phone to enable it to be used on other networks is perfectly legal in the UK. When a mobile phone is created, it is designed to be used with any network. However your network provider adds a lock to the phone so that you cannot use a competitor's network.
Q. Do I require any technical knowledge?
A. None at all. We provide full and easy to follow instructions for entering the unlock codes. All you need to know is how to use the phone's keypad, very simple.
Q. Can using this service damage my phone?
A. No. All unlocking does is remove the network lock and sim lock that were entered into the phone's software when sold to you. The worst case scenerio is that you could enter an incorrect code more than four times. If you do, you will lock the counter in the phone. You will then need to get the phone unlocked using a cable and software.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. We supply your unique unlocking codes at a very small charge of 2.99, no additional costs. This is substantially less than any network or unlocking service would charge you.
Q. Do you guarantee my phone will be unlocked?
A. If your phone is in our supported phones list then yes, we guarantee we can unlock your phone. If we cannot unlock your phone, then we will provide you with a full refund.
Q. When I have paid, what will I be sent?
A. You will be sent 2 unique codes. In most cases you will only need the first code, some phones will accept only the second code.
Q. How long will it take to receive the codes back?
A. For orders placed before 7.00pm codes and instructions are sent the SAME DAY.
Q. Can my unlock codes be used on another mobile of the same make and model?
A. No. This is because your unlock codes are unique to your phone. Each phone has its own unique IMEI number, hence the codes are unique.
Q. I want to unlock more than one phone, do you offer any discount?
A. Yes, we do. We offer a discount on 3 or more phones. If you plan to unlock multiple phones, please contact us.
Q. Will my network bar my mobile phone if I have it unlocked?
A. Absolutely not. Your network will actually supply the unlocking codes for you at a fee of at least 15.00. We generate the same unlocking codes for you, but for a fraction of the cost.
Q. Once my phone is unlocked, will my network know I have unlocked it?
A. No, your network will not know unless you tell them.
Q. Will I be able to use the phone on my original network?
A. Yes, you will be able to use your phone on any network which your phone supports. If your phone is multi band you will also be able to use it, for example, in the USA or Japan, where phones operate on different frequencies than in Europe. Please refer to your phone manufacturer's website for details on where your phone can work.
Q. My phone is not on the supported phones list, can it be unlocked with a remote code?
A. No. Only the phones listed can be unlocked by this method. Other phone makes and models can be unlocked using a cable and software (usually found at a market or similar).
Q. My mobile has been barred/blacklisted/blocked can you still unlock it?
A. NO. It is illegal to unblock barred mobile phones. We also do not change phone identities, and we will report anyone who requests such a change to the police.
Q. If I try the unlock codes the first time and I enter the code incorrectly, can I just keep trying?
A. No. You have five attempts to unlock your mobile, if you make a mistake the first time it will count towards the phone's five attempts. If after the fifth attempt your phone hasn't been unlocked, only a cable unlocking solution will help.
Q. I have received my code. When I type it in, it displays 'Code Error' or another error message.
A. If your phone displays 'Code Error' it means you have probably submitted incorrect IMEI or network details. Please email us with full details of the problem. If you are receiving a different error message please email us with the error details; in some rare cases the counter in the phone is locked by the network provider; in those cases the only way to lock the phone is to use a cable and software.
Q. Will unlocking my phone affect my warranty?
A. This type of service is not endorsed by phone manufacturers, whether you purchase your unlocking codes from your network provider or from us. However we have never heard of an instance where an unlocked phone has affected insurance. Cellular companies make the majority of their money through usage, not on the handset itself. It is in their best interest to support their customers phone usage.
Q. I am not in the UK. Can you unlock phones in other countries?
A. YES, our service works worldwide, as long as your handset is amongst the supported phone models. |
